A Song I Wrote For the Lonely Hearts
You don’t need another love song. You need a sonic hug for the moments that ache. This songs holds you, hears you, and reminds you there’s still light ahead
The void can be a lonely place. Somewhere between deep grief and great gratitude. Time has softened the ache and sting, yet somehow the tunnel still stretches on with no clear light ahead. Joy and hope aren’t gone, there are just harder to find these days. There’s a strange stillness, just floating in suspended time. Not walking forward and not going back. Just existing, quietly, without much motivation.
The voice saying ‘is this it?’ provides the undercurrent to everything and all of this underpinned by a desperate loneliness. A constant ache for a meaningful connection. Something or someone to remind us that we matter. To give purpose, but that sometimes feels unattainable. You remember, you’re in the void.
Yet in all of this, there isn’t a sense of depression or impending doom, but a tiny spark of love that refuses to be snuffed out. A small bright light, burning softly in your chest that says, “Don’t turn me off…..keep me on.”
The Sound of Not Being Alone
This song was written for you. It’s a sonic reminder that you are not alone, nor have you ever been alone. There is a collective heartbeat from every corner of the globe that says ‘I see you, I hear you, I understand and I’m with you’. This world feels like it’s crumbling before our eyes. Our leaders are failing us, kindness seems all too rare, and everyone is bracing for whatever impending catastrophic headline awaits us. Loneliness has become an epidemic, but that doesn’t have to always be the way. We have the power to change it.
Whatever we lean into, we multiply. Lean into fear, we create more fear. Lean into love, and we create more love. If we remember that we are all in this strange human experience together, and we are all looking for meaningful connection with each other, we can begin to heal. If we all focus on holding our vibration to love for the collective heartbeat of the world, we can find our way out of the void, together.
How the Song Found Me
When I was writing this song, I initially thought I was composing it for my dog. My furry best friend and loyal shadow. I’ve only recently realised, that I wasn’t composing it about him physically, but I was transforming the feeling he offers me into sound. The feeling of understanding, companionship and connection. Whether I am feeling the greatest joy, or the heaviness of the collective heart, he sits with me, he looks through me to my soul, there is often a lot of licking (usually up the nose), but my emotions never cause him to leave. He just quietly holds space for me, and never leaves.
May this song be that for you (minus the nostril licking). A sonic hug for the times when you need it. A space to hold and listen, without judgement, as you feel what is required. May it remind you, that you are not alone.
I hope you receive this song as the sonic gift it was meant to be.
I composed it to resonate. To help you remember who you are, and to reconnect your heart with the greater collective heartbeat. Experience it whenever the world, or the void, feels too lonely.
If something in you softened or stirred while listening, I’d love to know. Please leave a comment, and share it with another lonely heart who might need a little comfort today.
That’s the point. That’s the whole heartbeat of it.
