It’s a story we have often heard, but have we actually heard it. The one where we are shoving the authentic version of ourselves down somewhere under layers of performative walls, in order to be the person we think will be more accepted and tolerated. How often do we actually audit the performance and even though it may be Oscar-worthy, just realise that it is costing far more energy than it is giving?
Today is the day to take notice, and ask the tough question. It may be time to put down the comfortable, familiar script, and make way for the truer one.
Get comfortable, put on your headphones (best way to experience the journey) and let this sound be the medicine that trusts what’s underneath the role :
May the letting go feel more like relief than loss
I release the need to be seen in ways that no longer reflect who I am.
I allow the role I have been playing to soften and fall away.
I trust that what remains when the performance ends is more real, not less.
I step back from the spotlight I used to need, and feel the freedom in it.
I belong to myself first, and from there, to everyone else.
